INSOMNIA
Adequate quality and quantity of sleep is necessary to help maintain your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and emotional well-being. While sleeping, the brain is forming pathways to help you learn and remember information. Lifestyle and environmental factors, psycho-social issues, stress and medical issues can all influence sleep problems.
We are also learning the importance of the microbiome in sleep-wake cycles. The circadian rhythm is a key part of supporting our body’s homeostasis; the performing of maintenance functions to keep us functioning well and comfortably. During sleep a number of physiological functions are occurring including energy production, immune function and nutrient production.
We also know that sleep can be affected by chrononutrition; the time of day, type of foods and quantity that we eat. Dr Joe will assess environmental, nutritional, social and emotional issues which may be affecting your sleep.
